The Costa Rica Series
The raw and wild atmosphere and imagery that comprises the Pacific coast of Costa Rica inspired this series. It started first as a get-out-of-the-snowy-cold relaxing surf trip, but the more that I saw, the more details I became aware of. Branches naturally framed scenes of the ocean, emphasizing the movement and beauty within the water. The warm colors of the sunset amplified the already vivid green that lay upon the tops of the trees. There were places where rocks merged together then inches away broke apart, creating a variety of textures and shapes to indulge in. As the waves washed in then out again, drawings arose from the mixing of dark and light grains of sand. It is these small moments that I am interested in. I want to make these ever changing moments permanent in paint to show their beauty and importance. They made this surf trip into a muse for my paintings and a starting point for this new series.
